Book Review: Secret Pizza Party by Adam Rubin

Pick up the phone and order in some pizza, because after you read Secret Pizza Party by Adam Rubin, you'll want to have your very own secret pizza party!  Rubin tells the sad tale of Raccoon, who only wants pizza in life.  Just pizza.  He's a simple creature; he doesn't ask for much.  Yet, unkind humans are constantly swatting him away with their prickly yellow brooms.  Happily, Raccoon gets a brilliant idea--he's going to host a pizza party of his own...in secret.  Everyone knows that secret things are special and regular things are boring (see page 9-12 for a detailed diagram of why this is true).

Raccoon thinks he's solved his problem, until he tries to work out the logistics.  He might successfully trick the pizza man into thinking he's an "honest pizza-buying citizen who left his wallet in the car," but the raccoon-sniffing broom-bots are not to be fooled.  Grab this book so you can join this wily raccoon on his (mis)adventures to throw his very own pizza party.  While you're at it, check out Adam Rubin's other books for even more hilarity!

And, when you do end up having a secret pizza party, be sure to let me know.

-Miss Ashley

P.S. As you are reading this book with your little one, keep an eye out for the all the silly signs and other words in the illustrations.  Pointing out the words on signs, labels, shirts, etc., is a great way to develop your child's print awareness, which helps them to understand the importance of written language in everyday life--as well as in books!
